Die Cutting FAQs

What is die cutting?

Die cutting uses a custom steel blade, called a die, to cut printed pieces into a specific shape in one motion. It’s how you get rounded corners, pockets, slits or fully custom shapes. Bond Reproductions does die cutting in-house at our Vancouver shop, so your job is printed and cut under one roof.

What can Bond die cut?

Bond can die cut business cards, presentation folders, hang tags, swatch cards, shelf talkers, door hangers, greeting cards and packaging inserts. Popular uses include folder pockets for presentation folders, tabletop displays, hang tags and inserts.

Can you keep my die for future orders?

Yes. Once your custom die is made, Bond will keep it on file, so reorders don’t need a new die. This makes repeat runs of hang tags, folders or cards faster and more cost-effective.

How do I set up my file for die cutting?

Include a dieline, which is a vector outline of the cut shape, on its own layer in a spot colour. Keep important text and graphics inside the cut line and extend backgrounds past it. Not sure how? Bond’s prepress team checks every file and can help set up your dieline before printing.

Can die cutting be combined with foil stamping or embossing?

Yes. Bond does foil stamping, embossing and die cutting in-house, so you can combine them on one piece, like a foil-stamped business card with rounded corners or an embossed hang tag in a custom shape.

Planning a Die Cut Project?

Bond has been printing in Vancouver since 1992, and our die cutting is done in-house. Your project stays with one team from print to finish, and it can be paired with foil stamping or embossing in the same job. We work with clients across BC and Canada.
